Podcasting made easy and educational for the viewer by Chris Linn. While trying to create my podcast I ran into a couple of road blocks. Even after watching the tutorial on how to make a podcast I found that it was still difficult, probably because I am not the best with technology, but hopefully with some of the websites that I give will be helpful so anyone can create their own podcast.
A podcast is a series of media files that are released and then downloaded through web syndication. Web syndication is a form of uploading that takes website material and then makes it accessible to other sites. Podcastings main purpose is to upload a video or audio excerpt that has a main theme or message to send to the receiver.
Podcasts are helpful in many ways, but for this blog post let’s specifically talk about how it is beneficial for educational purposes. Say a student is absent for a day of class and they missed an important lecture. With podcast technology a teacher can record him or herself and upload that video by podcasting it to a host cites. An educator can use a podcast to upload book talks, international pen pals, music performances, interviews, or debates.
For my personal testimony of the technology, like I said above I thought it was kind of tough to get the program running and upload my recordings. It was not very frustrating downloading the different applications so I could run the system, but after I got them all up it was hard to get them all to run together. I just couldn't figure out how after I recorded my excerpt how to make it into a RSS feed and then post it to blogger. I am going to mess with it a little more, because I think it is a pretty interesting piece of techonology and it would also be beneficial in the future to use this technology.I think that I could use podcasting to upload a stream of videos or music for my students to access from their home. I know that many schools have limitations on what can be shown in class, but with podcast I could upload the films for extra credit and then the students could write an analysis on it.
Some tips to getting started with making a podcast, I suggest that you watch some tutorials that people have made on YouTube. I will post the links to the different YouTube videos at the bottom of this blog post. One of the sites that I thought was pretty user friendly was the audacity cited. It downloaded fairly quickly, and it was actually pretty fun to mess around and use all of the different tools that the program entails. Also, another site that gives a good example of what a podcast actually is EPNweb.org. This cite gives a ton of examples of different podcasts for different educational purposes.

podcasting has become very popular.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree that podcasting was difficult. The video didn't really explain what an RSS feed was or how to use it. One of the sites he showed us didn't even work. I am still confused a little by it.
